What Happened?

Shares of social network operator Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) fell 4.1% in the morning session as investors locked in profits following a 13% weekly rally driven by its new Muse artificial intelligence agent, while borrowing plans added pressure.

The pullback followed a sharp run-up after Meta introduced its Muse personal AI agent and announced at its Connect conference that the software will expand to smart glasses, the company said on its blog. However, sentiment faced headwinds after the Financial Times reported, citing investors familiar with its goals, that Meta plans to tap Europe’s bond market for the first time to fund AI infrastructure as technology giants borrow at record levels.

The shares were trading at $718.70, down 4.3% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Meta’s shares are quite volatile and have had 16 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 4 days ago when the stock gained 4.3% on the news that investors continued to bid the stock higher as the Meta Connect event showcased new hardware and deeper Muse AI distribution beyond the phone. According to Meta’s Connect 2026 recap, the company said it is bringing Muse to its AI glasses so users can interact with the agent hands-free throughout the day, and showed Muse updates including new features, connectors, and a state-of-the-art model. Meta also unveiled its widest AI-glasses lineup yet across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses — including first-ever Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses — and said more than 100 AI-glasses styles are planned by year-end. Separately, CNBC reported that CEO Mark Zuckerberg debuted $1,299 Meta VR Glasses for spring 2027 and a Muse Charm pendant planned for holiday shipping, extending Meta’s AI-agent push into wearables. Expanding Muse from a phone app into glasses and accessories reinforces the commercial case for Meta’s AI strategy and helped support the stock.

Meta is up 10.5% since the beginning of the year, and at $718.70 per share, it is trading close to its 52-week high of $777.59 from September 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Meta’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $2,110.
